Many of our resources download as ZIP files due to the number of activities included within the resource. Modern computers have built in software to extract these files, so you won't need to install any extra software to be able to open them. Clicking on the downloaded resource should open the ZIP file but if you come across any problems, follow the guidance below.
How to extract ZIP files on a computer or laptop
You can extract the individual resources from the ZIP that you downloaded by following these steps:
1) Right-click the 'Download' button underneath the image of the resource and select 'Save Link As...'.
2) Save the resource to your device.
3) Locate the ZIP file on your computer.
4) Right-click on it.
5) From the menu that appears, select 'Extract All...'.
You will then be able to follow the on-screen wizard in order to choose a folder to extract the resources to. Once completed, the resources are ready for opening and printing.
Seeing an error message?
If you click to open the downloaded file and see an error message that the filename is too long, we recommend ensuring you are unzipping the ZIP file contents as per the instructions above. This will allow you to edit the file name so that it is shorter and then open the resources.
If your browser is set to download the ZIP file into a restricted area on a work or home computer, this can cause issues with errors such as "Destination file cannot be created" or similar. To resolve this, please either move the ZIP file to your Desktop or My Documents folder before unzipping it, or double-click the ZIP file, highlight all the files inside it, right-click and click "Copy" and then "Paste" them to the Desktop or your My Documents folder.
How do I open ZIP files using a phone or tablet device?
Our Twinkl App can be used to browse and download resources on mobile devices - you can download it here. When a ZIP file is downloaded via the app, it will automatically open when tapped and allow you to access the resources inside.
Some of our more advanced resources (such as our Flipchart resources) are designed to work with standard PC equipment, or require specific software. These resources may not open properly on devices such as phones and tablets which lack the required software.
