Customise the Multiplication Tables Check

The default for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) game is 25 questions at 6 seconds each for all times tables x2 to x12.  You can customise the game for your children, allowing you to personalise their learning.  You can customise the game in a number of ways:

  • Change the number of questions
  • Change the times tables set
  • Change the time for each question

This can be done prior to sharing the resource or edited afterwards.

How do I customise the MTC prior to sharing?

  1. From the MTC resource preview, click 'Launch'
  2. Click the blue cog  to the top right of the preview animation

  3. Change the time for the answer (seconds)
  4. Click the circle for 'Custom Settings'
  5. Change the number of questions asked
  6. Tick the times tables you want to set
  7. Click the button to turn on 'test conditions' if you want the children to play the game as if it's a test with no assistance or interruptions. 
  8. Click 'Apply Changes'
  9. Scroll down and click 'Add to Lesson'.  Click the 'create a new lesson' link and fill in the details for the lesson, including the children/groups you would like to share the game with.
  10. This lesson is then available in 'Lessons Overview' and can be shared with your children

 

You might want to make different customisations for different groups. If so, every time you make a new customisation, make a completely new lesson with the MTC in and share it with the group you want to receive the customised version.

How do I customise the MTC after sharing?

You may wish to customise the game or change the customisation after the game has been shared.  Follow the steps below to do this:

  1. Go to My Lessons
  2. Find the lesson(s) with the MTC and click the lesson name in the list on the left-hand side
  3. Under the MTC preview picture, click 'Config'
  4. Change the time for the answer (seconds)
  5. Change to 'Custom Settings'
  6. Tick the times tables you want to set
  7. Slide to 'test conditions' if you want the children to play with the resource as if it's a test with no assistance or interruptions
  8. Click 'Apply Changes'. 

The next time the children log in, they will be able to see the newly customised MTC game.
