Writing on Resources in the Twinkl App (Markup Features)

Markup features allow you to use Twinkl PDF resources directly on a device by drawing, writing, annotating or otherwise marking the downloaded PDF. Worksheets can be completed digitally in this way.

Presently Markup is only supported on Twinkl’s “standard” PDF resource types. Non-PDF resources cannot be marked up at this time. Our TwinklCares team can help you to find Markup compatible resources if you're struggling to find what you’d like! 

 

Unfortunately, Android devices have no native support for markup features in the same way that Apple devices do. Regardless, we've tried our best to make this still possible for you and the Twinkl App on Android has recently been updated to support the ability for our resources to be marked up via a 3rd party app. You'll need to install a 3rd party app to markup on your android device, to find one, try searching for "pdf markup" in the Google Play store. We can't officially recommend or support any 3rd party apps, however we've personally had good results with the Xodo PDF Editor & Reader app.

 

It’s really easy to annotate our PDF resources using Apple’s Markup tools available in the updated Twinkl App on an iPad or iPhone running IOS/iPadOS 17 or higher†.

Apple offer users some official guidance on general features of Markup here and here, plus a few support videos here, but here’s Twinkl’s step-by-step guide to using Markup on our PDF resources:

1) Download the Twinkl app to your iPad or iPhone. If you already have the app, please make sure you update it to the most recent version. Remember, Markup is only available on Apple devices, running IOS 17 or newer. 

2) Open the Twinkl App, login with your Twinkl account details and find a resource you’d like to annotate. Tap on the resource and download the standard version of the resource.

3) Once downloaded, a green tick will appear. Click on the icon to open the resource.

4) Use the Markup feature in the top right corner to display the Markup annotation tools. Pick from a variety of tools and colours - you can also erase if you make a mistake.

Tip: Click the + plus icon, to add text and shapes.

5) To save the resource with Markup annotations, click on the Action icon in the top right (square and arrow icon). You can save or share as needed. Perfect for sending completed work back to teachers or parents who want to check understanding.

†  You can check your IOS version on your device within “Settings” > “General” > “About” then look at the value shown against “Software Version”. Software upgrades to iOS 17 are available to compatible devices via “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update”.
