For a pupil to access all the features of the app and to have their progress tracked they’ll need an adult account holder to have created a learner login, given them access to the app and to have tailored their settings such as assigning the correct year group. Take a look at these articles to find out how to do this.
When learners are ready to use the app, they’ll need to follow these steps:
1- Log in as a learner: Go to https://www.twinkl.ca/learn and type in the username and password
2 - Launch the app: In the learner dashboard, click on the maths icon (a picture of a frog) to launch the app. Then press the pink play button on the welcome screen.
3 - Choose to enter either the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) or Skill Safari: Most children will have the choice of playing the MTC or Skill Safari. Adults can choose to turn off one of these areas in the settings.
4 - Play the games; collect stars, animals and habitats; and climb the leaderboard: More information about what to expect from each game type can be found below.
Multiplication Tables Check
The Multiplication Tables Check area of the Math App can be played using customizable settings or the standardiuzed settings for testing knowledge. The account holder has a choice whether to customize the settings or allow the learner to customize their settings.
Statutory (standardized) check settings
This setup includes 3 practice questions, followed by 25 questions, each with a six-second window to answer. There is a three-second gap between each question. The check will only assess multiplication facts and not the corresponding division facts. The questions cover the times tables ranging from 2 x 2 up to 12 x 12 with a particular focus on the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 times tables. Equations are randomly generated using the weighting set out in the table below:
Customizable Settings
The following settings are customizable within the game: time to answer each question, time between each question, amount of questions, colour theme and which times tables to practise.
Skill Safari
In a distant land, a set of colourful islands glisten in the sun… A curious archipelago featuring frosty flora, leafy jungle, and underwater worlds. Each island has its own creature, with unique strengths and skills. They’re capable of numerical greatness, but need daily practice to get stronger. Now, it’s up to you to nurture them with maths activities. The islands are waiting for you!
Skill Safari is made of three biomes which address three strands of math: number and place value; addition and subtraction; and multiplication and division. All games are designed by math specialists. Each year group, or grade, has its own set of games (briefly described below) which will load for you automatically, the objective of the games will differ to fit the national curriculum aims of the year group.
