Curriculum Architect is designed to make planning your school’s curriculum simple and flexible. Follow the steps below to get started, build your curriculum, and access lessons and resources with ease.
Getting started
Create a new curriculum:
- Go to the Curriculum Architect page and click ‘Add New Curriculum’.
- In the pop-up, enter a description and decide whether the curriculum should be visible to other members of staff.

Once you’ve filled everything in, click ‘Add New Curriculum’ to save.
Edit your curriculum details:
- Your new curriculum will now appear on the Curriculum Architect page.

To make changes to the title or description, click the three dots next to the ‘Progress’ column.
Explore subject content:

If you’d like to browse available subjects before adding them to your curriculum, click ‘Curriculum Schemes' underneath 'Explore' on the left-hand side of the screen.
Add schemes of work:
- Click the curriculum name, then choose a subject - You’ll only be able to add subjects your school has paid for, but you can still explore other available subjects.

Plan your curriculum with units of work
- Drag and drop units into the correct terms for each year group.
- To adjust placement, either use the grab handles at the edges of each unit, or click the three dots and select ‘Adjust unit placement’ to choose the year group, start date, and end date.
Add your own custom units
- If you want to block out time for extra learning, such as class projects or non-Twinkl units, click ‘Add a custom unit’ on the right-hand side of the screen.

Enter the details (title, description, year group, start date, end date) and save.
Save your curriculum
- When you’ve finished planning, click ‘Save changes to Planner’.
How do I access the lessons and resources?
Once your curriculum is set up, here’s how to find the lessons and resources linked to your schemes of work:
- On the Curriculum Architect page, click on your curriculum and then select the subject.
- At the top of the page, click ‘Planner Overview’, then select the unit of work you want.
- On this page, you’ll find key information about the unit, downloadable overviews and knowledge organisers, and a space for adding your own notes.
- To dive deeper into lesson details, click ‘Lesson Sequence’ above the unit information. Here you can view each lesson, download lesson plans, and access all the resources you need.
