A lot of our resources are downloaded as ZIP files because there are many activities included in the resource. All modern Windows and Mac computers have a built-in function to open ZIP files, so you don't need to install any additional software. When you click on the downloaded resource, the ZIP file should open, but if you encounter any issues, follow the instructions below.
How to extract ZIP files on a computer or laptop
You can download the ZIP file and extract the individual resources by following these steps:
1) Right-click the 'Download' button under the image of the resource and select 'Save Link As...'.
2) Save the resource to your device.
3) Find the ZIP file on your computer.
4) Right-click on it.
5) From the menu that appears, select 'Extract All...'.
You will then be able to follow the on-screen instructions to choose a folder to extract the resources to. Once it's done, the resources are ready to be opened and printed.
If the ZIP file still doesn't open after following the above steps, please double click on the downloaded ZIP file. Then, select the files from the pack that you want to use, right-click and choose 'Copy'. Next, go to your desktop or 'Documents' folder, right-click in an empty area and click 'Paste'.
How do I open ZIP files using a phone or tablet device?
ZIP files downloaded through the Twinkl app will automatically open when tapped, allowing you to access the resources inside.
Some of our more advanced resources (such as our Flipchart resources) are designed to work with standard PC equipment or require specific software. These resources may not open properly on devices like phones and tablets that don't have the required software.
ZIP files downloaded through the web browser on your mobile device can be found in the 'Downloads' section of your 'Files' or 'Folders' app. Tap on the download and the ZIP file should be extracted, creating a folder that you can tap on to access each part of the download.
Seeing an error message?
If you click to open the downloaded file and see an error message that the file name is too long, we suggest that you unzip the ZIP file contents following the instructions above. This will allow you to edit the file name to make it shorter and then open the resources.
If your browser is set to download the ZIP file into a restricted area on a work or home computer, this can cause issues with errors like 'Destination file cannot be created' or something similar. To fix this, please either move the ZIP file to your 'Desktop' or 'My Documents' folder before unzipping it, or double-click the ZIP file, select all the files inside, right-click and click 'Copy', and then 'Paste' them onto your 'Desktop' or 'My Documents' folder.
