Use the label template to make labels for coat pegs, drawers, classroom displays, and more!
1) Sign in to your Twinkl account and type 'Create' in the search bar to open the Create page.
2) Click ‘Start creating now’.
3) Three options will appear on screen. Click on the ‘Create New’ option on the left and the ‘START CREATING’ link.
4) Click 'Labels and Cards'.
5) Use the options on the left to select a predesigned label, or click 'Custom Labels' to design your own labels.
6) Click 'Custom Labels' and select the template of your choice. We've given some ideas of how you might use each type of label.
7) When your labels load, you'll notice one label in the middle of the screen and a page of labels to the right. At the bottom of the page of labels you'll see 'Select All' and a tick box. When this box is ticked, anything you add to the label in the middle of the screen (the master label) will be added to all of the labels.
If you're wanting each label to have the same design but different text, we'd recommend applying your design to the master label and adding any text or images that will be different once you're happy with the design (background, border, any images or shapes).
8) To add a background color or pattern, click the fourth tab from the top on the left of the screen (striped square). Click on the first square to add a background color. Once applied, click on the square next to the paint can icon in the task bar above the bunting to select a color.
Alternatively, click on one of the patterns to add a background pattern. Use the task bar above the bunting to change the colors of the background and increase or decrease the size of the pattern. You can also change the opacity and delete the background.
9) It’s good practice to save your resource as early as possible. Choose a name for your resource and type this in the box at the top right of the web page. Click ‘Save’ next to the box to save it.
10) To add a border, click on the bottom tab in the options on the left (outline of a square with solid and dotted sides). Click on a color to add it your label and use the options in the task bar above the label to change the thickness and shade of the border. You can also use the tool to change the shape of the corners.
If you'd prefer an image border, click 'Images' at the top of border options on the left of the screen. Here, you can search through a collection of borders.
To create your own border using Twinkl's illustrations, click 'Illustrations' at the top of the border options on the left of the screen. Choose up to 4 illustrations and they'll be added to the labels as a repeated pattern border.
To remove an illustration from your border, move your mouse over the illustration on the left of the screen. A trash bin icon will appear. Click on this symbol to remove the illustration.
11) Use the third tab on the left of the screen to add images to your labels. If you’d like to add the same image to each label, make sure the box next to ‘Select All’ (on the right of the screen) is ticked. If this box is unticked (as seen in the screenshot below) the image will only be added to the label selected.
To add an illustration, click on the illustration you’d like to use and it will appear on your label. Use the box around it to change the size, or click and drag to move it around the label.
To use an image from the internet, click the image tab on the left of the screen and 'Web' above the options that appear. Search for an image you'd like to use and then click on it in the options that appear. The image will appear on your label with a box around it which you can use to change the size and click and drag to move it around.
To add your own images to your labels, click the 'My Images' tab. This allows you to upload your own images from your device. Any previously uploaded images can be found here, just click the image to add it to the label.
To add a new image, click in the box and select the image from a folder on your device. Once you’ve chosen your image, click to add a tick in the box to confirm the image is your own, and then click the ‘Upload image’ button.
Your image will appear underneath the ‘Upload image’ button and can now be used with any Create template that allows you to add your own images. Click on the image and it will appear on your label. Click on the image on your resource so that a box appears around it. This allows you to change the size and placement of the image.
To remove an image, click on it (on the label) so a box appears around it. Then click on the trash bin icon in the task bar above your resource.
12) To add text to a single label, make sure the 'Select All' box is empty, then click on one of the labels on the page on the right. Click the text tab (TT) on the left of the screen and select a font type, font size and type your text. Click 'Add New Text Box' to add the text to the label.
The word will appear on the template with a box around it. Click on this to position the word on the label.
To change the size and font of your text, highlight the word in the text box and select the new font and size.
To add a list of words or names to your labels, cluck 'WordsLists' on the left of the screen. This article explains step by step how to add and use the 'WordList' feature.
13) When you've finished creating your resource, click ‘Save’ at the top right of the web page. If this is the first time you're saving your resource, please take a look at step 9.
14) Once saved, click ‘Download’ at the top right of the web page.
15) Take a look at the print preview to check you're happy with your resource, then click ‘Save and Download’.
You'll see a progress bar on screen and can leave feedback for the Create team if you wish.
16) Once downloaded, your device may display an option on screen to save the resource (to your device) or open the resource. Alternatively, it can be found in the ‘Downloads’ folder of your device. Your resource will download and open as a PDF. Please note, your screen may look different to the image below depending on the PDF reader your device uses.
